Wayne oil burner: troubleshooting, controls & specs
Wayne Combustion Systems (a Scott Fetzer company, Fort Wayne, Indiana) makes the MSR, EHA, and Blue Angel burners found on many older furnace and boiler installs; this page explains which generic control the burner carries, lists the sourced setup specs, and shows what a technician checks.
A Wayne burner. The grey housing, the igniter box on top and the small nameplate on the side are the tells.
Wayne residential burners use a generic cad-cell primary (Honeywell/Resideo R7184 or
R8184, or equivalent), not a Wayne-specific code. Decode the lights from whichever
control is mounted on the burner using the error-code database (R7184 and R8184 are listed
there).
Installing burner parts and setting combustion is licensed-technician work; these numbers
are for sourcing the right part. The first row is the complete burner, for a replacement
or a spare; match the model, the air tube length and the firing rate to the appliance.

HS / 'Blue Angel'
HS-series conversion gun burner; 'Blue Angel' is Wayne's field/retail name for the HS family (the name is used across HS oil and HSG gas).
Firing rate: Per the Wayne HS conversion manual and OEM cross-reference - matched per appliance (the Blue Angel OEM guide lists per-appliance nozzle, air-damper, and FLAMELOCK position for startup; final settings by combustion analyzer).

What a technician checks
Found on many older furnace installs. Wayne's nozzle tables are rated at 100 psi like other brands. The Blue Angel guide gives a starting nozzle, air damper and FLAMELOCK head position for each appliance, to be finished with combustion instruments. Wayne burners carry a Honeywell primary control (Wayne lists the R7284G for the MSR, and older burners may carry another Honeywell primary), so a Wayne lockout is read off the control on the burner, not a Wayne code. An aging Wayne install pairs with the lifespan and replacement cost guides. Wayne burner service line historically 1-800-443-4625.
